Eddie Dzuik is the chief operating officer of the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals in Columbia, MO. He’s been a dog breeder, owner and handler of Beagles for over 40 years.
Q: Why do you feed Purina Pro Plan dog food?
A: My dogs thrive on it. I value the nutritional research that has gone into creating a high quality food. Q: What is the most exciting part of being a dog breeder/handler/owner?
A: Recognizing the promise in a young dog and, through careful rearing, training, socializing, nutrition and conditioning, watching them fulfill their potential.
Q: What’s your number-one goal in your work?
A: In my professional work, encouraging canine health awareness and providing my fellow breeders various toolsets to make more informed breeding decisions and breed healthier dogs.
Q: What do you find most rewarding about the time you spend with your dogs?
A: The bond and their unconditional love. My dogs are—and always have been—my best friends.
Q: What do you think it takes to make a dog champion?
A: First and foremost, a dog that closely meets the breed standard. Beyond that, training, conditioning, grooming, proper nutrition and showmanship all play an important role as well.
Q: What draws you to your dog breed(s) of choice?
A: I like the Beagle’s temperament, size, ease of care and overall look.
