A 2-year-old white and orange-marked female Pointer, Hightailing Miss Kate, is the winner of the second annual Purina Top Shooting Dog Derby Award. Owned by Kevin and Maureen Joyce of East Northport, New York, and handled by Mike Tracy of Glenville, Pennsylvania. “Kate” earned 1,066 points in the yearlong competition. “Kate is a stylish dog who handles kindly,” says Kevin Joyce, who started Kate on foundation training, introduced her to birds, and taught her steady to wing and shot. “She is a pretty running dog. As big as she runs, she will not get lost because she loves to be with you.” Kate dominated the award competition by winning the New England Shooting Dog Futurity and the U.S. Quail Shooting Dog Futurity and accumulating four placements in Purina point stakes, including taking second in the Eastern Open Derby.
